 "customer support + macs = problems" 2010-08-08
By dan
I bought this router because I didn't have much money and it said it will support mac and PC connections. And it does.. Kind of. When I hooked it up the CD they sent me it didn't work, so I called them on the phone. They worked me through the setup on my roommates PC desktop. Everything went well until we tried to connect 3 wireless mac computers belonging to me and my other roommate. None of them worked. Customer support told me that our network card manufacturers are to blame and they could help me no further. That being said I have never had a problem hooking my MacBook up to any other network at a friends house or a coffee shop and I take my laptop everywhere.

A few days later I was messing with the router and I got one of them hooked up but every time I disconnect from the network it would not connect again until I reset the router at least once. Sometimes it takes up to 5 tries in order for it to work and we have never been able to connect more than one mac laptop to this network at a time. This was annoying when we would try to do school work and only one of us could be online at a given time.

Eventually we all just got ethernet cables and used a wired connection. It very well may be that the router could work fine with our macs but my lack of knowledge (and customer supports lack of support) is limiting its capabilities. Or maybe mine was defective. I'm not really sure who to blame other than myself.. I'm the one who lost the receipt.

"And older model but a good one" 2010-02-25
By DH (Wilmington, Delaware USA)
Four stars only because it is not the latest and greatest model.

This is an older model that I used to have at home and at the office (a small business). I recently purchased it for my mom's house because I could set it up easily on the 1st floor where the cable modem was and the signal would reach full strength up to the second floor where here desktop was. I partnered it with a Netgear USB G receiver. Having owned it in the past I knew it would be reliable and it is, no calls from mom, it just works.

I've upgraded to the newer models at home and business as I am a heavy bandwidth user and needed the N features of the newer models. If you want a great G setup this is a good choice.

"easy set up and good with 3 different applications" 2009-11-07
By Albert Newton (Portland, OR)
This router was easy to set up and works flawlessly with my Apple, my windows laptop, my video phone, and wii on line. We are in a small apt so I wasn't interested in the range but more the speed and this router did not disappoint. Tiger woods runs flawlessly :)

 "A solid bargain" 2009-10-05
By Adam Denning (Lawrence, KS)
As other reviewers already mentioned, the wizard setup is gravy. The metal housing seems very solid. The design is nice. Honestly, my only complaint is the blue light in the center gets a bit distracting, but for the price. who really cares. I recommend this wifi access point for Mac or Windows users. Hard core Unix/Linux geeks might want to look into units with a built-in printer port and slightly more software configuration options.

"Stay away from Maxrange and 108 Mbps" 2009-02-09
By DrZ (Chicago, IL, USA)
Cons:

- We used to lose connection on all devices several times every evening until I disabled Maxrange and 108 Mb speed (can work only with devices with compatible Netgear cards)

- Wireless access list doesn't work properly. Tech support told me I don't need it with wpa2 because wpa2 is secure. Maybe they're right, but why is it available with it and not working? Bad design.

- Support was worthless - communication problems, bad connection and their only help was to suggest to stop using access list for wireless devices "because it is secure without it". I have since performed numerous factory resets and I kept having several one minute outages every evening until I disabled the two above mentioned proprietary features. It was very annoying.

- Router went beserk after Panasonic security webcam tried to auto-configure UPNP for web access. It was altering from up and down every few minutes and I had to reload the firmware to revive it.

- Until I added reservations for all my devices Mac addresses, the IP address of our iPhones kept getting incremented each time I would turn the screen on.

Pros:

Good range. Range is even more so amazing with Maxrange enabled but that makes it flaky. I recommend it only if you are using Netgear wireless cards.
