This installed super easily, it performed as advertised...but...(my bad) it didn't perform any better than the old 1st edition of AirPort for my older Macs. That notwithstanding, this was VERY reasonably priced and it was practically a no-brainer ease of use. This works better with the faster 2.0 USB ports. :)

I bought this adapter for my dual quad Mac Pro tower. Why this supercomputer never came with a wireless card standard in all models is beyond me...(this is a Jan 2008 version). Anyway, I bought the card so I wouldn't have to keep using long ethernet cables. The setup was a bit awkward to me (I work in I.T. so this stuff isn't foreign to me, so for it to be awkward to me is saying something). It wasn't difficult, just awkward. After setting up the interface in the Apple network settings I joined my network without a problem. It has workdays expected for the most part except for when it happens to not find my network (router may be off, or some interference, or it is taking a while for it to find it, etc..) I noticed that it will automatically connect to this one unsecured network that is being broadcast in my neighborhood even though I don't have that network setup as one I told it to connect to. I verified it is connected to it bu the IP assignment because my wife will frequently connect to it on her MB despite how many time I tell her not to. But yea, it will connect to it and I can't control it. Don't like that 'feature' very much. As I stated, it will happen if it can't find my network or when my system first boots up. The only other gripe I have, which may have been mentioned in the site I bought it from (can't remember), but didn't become an issue until I recently upgrade my wireless router to a wndr3700 is that this does not use 5ghz n, it is 2.4ghz n....took me a bit to realize that as it is listed on the very last page of the manual (was king of like a 'oh, yea, by the way...) no big deal though the performance is still very good. Just be ware if you are wondering why it may not be showing your network.



Overall a good product. LAstly, the drivers that came with mine were pretty up to date. I bought this is January 2010 and my drivers were from Nov 2009.

I just thought that I lean people a hand. The chipset for this product is made by Ralink Corp. of Taiwan.

Both OWC and Newer Technologies do not make the drivers for this device available for download for some reason (at least from a public URL and even then they are out of date). The drivers on the CD you got are probably out of date.



You can download new drivers for this device from the Ralink Corp. web site.

The chipset in the nmaxpower is an RT2860.

Many wireless adapters have mac drivers but NewerTech have actually bothered to write this on the box.



So if you don't want to spend time finding product "hdt3i7r6t, NB! second version, the one with the 84756 chipset, only produced in october 2003, and then download a driver from a third-party then this is a good alternative.



PS

I bought it because I had a common problem with the old g4's, the airport card broke, giving "Kernel Panic". I turned off Airport and have been running this for a month with no problems.

I own a first generation Macbook Pro - the one with the intel core duo processor. This is the one with 2 wireless antenna instead of 3 of the newer core 2 duo Macbook Pros.



I've been having problems connecting to my university due to the 2 antenna - it just wouldn't connect. I even upgraded the wireless G card that came stock with the MBP to the newer wireless N card (a $50 upgrade) - however I still couldn't connect because my range was so tiny.





I stumbled apond this external wireless card and decided to give it a test drive. When it arrived I took it to my university in a room that I could never connect to - behold it saw the network and I was instantly connected. The speed is great - even running at wireless G and the dongle helps to find the network - you can move it around to find the signal.



The software is very well done - shows you all the statistics you could ever want - signal - noise.......etc. It even works on Windows 7 Professional using bootcamp - just plug the USB in first so it can install the drivers then install from the disk.



Anyone with a first generation MBP with 2 antennas who are having trouble finding or connecting to networks in large institutions - don't buy the wireless N miniPCI card - buy this external USB network card. The problem isn't with your network card - it's the lack of a third antenna.



Edit - My dongle just broke, stopped working randomly. Please do yourself a favor and do not buy from these guys (Mac-Pro) I sent them a nice email asking advice to what to do and the sales representative actually told me to go f myself.

The manufacturer of the product you are holding is OWC/Newertech. They are in charge of warranty. The item you bought has a 1 Year Factory warranty.



Call them for warranty. Mac Pro is a dealer, who does not warranty they do not make.
