this controller works good for when i play madden on my laptop using windows vista. my hands do sweat after a while and thats when the handy fan feature comes in. the fan works good, but the noise can be annoying. also, it doesn't look very durable. looks cheap, and might break if you drop it on a hard floor. overall its good, and i'm happy with it, and i would reccomend it if you don't want to spend a lot of money.

First, let me just say this controller is an excellent choice for anyone who wants gamepad. The airflow system is kind of neat, it does help keep my hands cool, but that's not why I bought it, I bought it because it got good reviews as a controller. The mapping software it comes with is fantastic. Super easy to use and does the job. A photo of you're controller pop's up and you click on the button you want to edit, then click on a corresponding key on you're keyboard or mouse. But even that is not necessary to use it; you can pretty much just plug it in and go. I have been using this gamepad for about 2 months now. It works very well for me, the only criticisms I can think of is the contoller does NOT feel cheap, but it doesn't feel as sturdy as my PS3 controllers. Also' a couple times when I fired up my game the analog stick wasn't calibrated correctly. But unplugging the gamepad, closing the game, plugging the game pad back in, then turning the game back on easily fixed that. I don't know if it is my game or the controller, (probably the game) but you must have the gamepad plugged in and ready to go before you turn the game on, or the game doesn't recognized that it is present. I am considering buying another one so my friends can game with me when they visit. :)

This controller is not fully compatible with vista 64 bit. Also the buttons are numbered different from the logitech controller that I have so I have to change them in the game if I want to use the controller (ie when I push the jump button on this controller it makes the game attack instead).

I have been using this gamepad for months and the fan still works as good as it ever did. I love the feel of the grips and the button responsiveness. If I had to improve something, I would make the D-pad a little softer to the touch and easier on the thumbs. I've heard of them sticking a little, but I've never had a problem with it. The analogs are fantastic and my Robotron 2084/SmashTV scores have never been higher.



It really does dry the sweat from your hands and cool the figners.

 "Awesome cooling fans, but the D-pad is junk" 2010-09-11

I purchased this controller back in August 2007. Since then I've used it for several different Mario-like platformers as well as fighting games like Street Fighter 4.



Positives:

- The fans in the controller are really nice and do keep your hands cool.

- It's bulky, but in a good way. Fits to my hands and doesn't break if dropped. (This could be a con if you have smaller hands)

- Cord is long (~10 feet), nice for people with computers hooked up to TVs.

- Cheap. Typically controllers will run you between $30 and $50.



Negatives:

- The fans are pretty noisy on the highest setting. It's as if someone is using a hair dryer in the next room. The low setting gives proper ventilation without all the noise.

- Lousy directional pad. It feels stiff and unresponsive. More often than not, I end up dying in platformers because the D-pad sticks or doesn't register a change in movement as fast as I'd like. Get used to using the analog stick.



All-in-all, this is a pretty decent controller which has held up well over the few years I've had it.

For the price, this really isn't a bad controller. The analog sticks and buttons all work well, and the fan is a nifty feature to have sometimes. I really only have 2 problems with this controller:



1) Compatibility. I can't seem to get this to work with a lot of modern games

2) The D-pad. I configured the movement in Snes9x (a super nintendo emulator) to the D-pad and tried to play super metroid, and it was completely unplayable. It has a ridiculously difficult time correctly reading diagonal D-pad presses. Then I tried to go for something simpler that only used 4-directional D-pad functionality, Megaman X, and it was still unmanageable - even only working with the simple 4 directional commands the D-pad was far too unresponsible to be adequate for gameplay.

3) This could be a problem with the emulator, but in Project64 I'm having an impossible time getting the analog stick's full range to be utilized. There'll be a huge dead zone along the outer edges of the stick's range, meaning that full presses are very easy to do, but gameplay that requires sensitive analog movement (zelda shooting gallery, super mario 64 platforming etc.) becomes ridiculously difficult. I've ordered an xbox 360 controller for windows, so I'll use that and see if the problem persists and update this review with the results.



But, for the most part it's a good controller for the price. If amazon allowed more detailed reviews, I would have given this 3.5 / 5 stars.

Great controller. PS2 layout, the airflow gimmick works and is nice.



Problem is the cord got frayed. Electricity melted the part where the cord starts out of the controller.

Windows no longer recognizes controller.

OK. So if you have read many other critical reviews of this gamepad you know some of the shortcommings. Such as the d-pad not being the best to the number buttons being different than "normal". I'll tell you this, if you don't care about having a rumble feature and don't mind programming the buttons to meet specific game requirements this is absolutely the best controller you will find for the price (I paid $11.99 each and bought 3 to qualify for free shipping). I play mostly Nintendo emulators on our PC, mostly Project 64 for N64, with my children and these controllers are a couple orders of magnitude better than the el cheapo USB controllers I originally bought for the PC cause I'm, well, frugal. And I wasn't about to spend a lot of dough on controllers for sticky little kid hands to destroy. Responsive, good feel even in tiny 7 year old hands (my daughter, not me), and you can turn the fan off which is good because I find the noise quite annoying. The kids think it's cool though. I'll have to wait and see about long-term durability. But for 12 bones what do you expect? They seem solid and there is no creaking when you torque them while getting crazy during a game. They are a little light for me since I'm used to heavier gamepads with rumble feature but that's not enough for me to rescind my best cheapo USB PC contoller ranking for this great controller. Now if I could just get my Nyko Wii contollers to work correctly all the time.....
