"very uncomfortable" 2010-09-14

Like most headphones, these are made so the earpads nearly touch when the device is not being stretched, so it'll fit somebody with a 2 inch wide head. The amount of force required to stretch it to the width of a normal head is excessive and uncomfortable in my opinion. There is no adjustment for that. The only adjustment is to slide the pads up or down, which does nothing to the horizontal force that they apply. The pads have adequate circumference for my ears, but they are not quite deep enough, so there is a painful pressure on part of my ears (the antihelix, google it), in addition to the uncomfortable pressure on the sides of my head.
I put it across a wide sofa arm for several hours in an attempt to stretch it out. There was only a very slight improvement. It is still very uncomfortable due to the excessive horizontal forces squeezing my head like a vise. This is a major downgrade from the Plantronics DSP-500 headset that I had been using for several years until it broke (both in terms of comfort and sound quality, but most importantly comfort).
I wish headphones were advertized with some kind of sizing information. One size fits all is always baloney.

Steelseries keeps releasing new versions of their headphones, but honestly, they're not that good. It's a very expensive headphone that claims being great for FPS games. However, I've found Sennheiser headsets much more better in terms of quality and durability.

I've had these headsets for a little over a year now and the right earphone stopped working completely, which is quite frustrating when you are trying to play games. However, their USA warranty lasts only for 1 year, conveniently enough to expire right before my headset broke. Total customer support time took 2 weeks before they let me know that my warranty was expired.
The drivers were also a pain in the ass to get working on my computer.
That being said, when they worked, they worked quite well while for gaming, but were mediocre for music. They aren't uncomfortable, but I wouldn't exactly say they were enjoyable to wear.

a little pricey but the USB sound card is convenient and the sound works as advertised. The headphone design is comfortable as it cups your ear unlike others that over long periods of use begin to feel as if they are crushing your ear. The mic is also designed well and so far works without any issues in all my pc games.... nothing worse than having a mic that won't work when playing online games and this one works all the time so, A+.

I am experienced in headphones/headsets, ive owned turtle beachs, steelseries, logitech, and now astro a40's. I prefer steelseries headset hands down, the sound is unlike any of the others have delivered and with the usb soundcard you kno your getting the best the headset can give you. Using all the headsets i have the what i am using is the Steelseries 5h v2's along with usb soundcard for pc gaming. And when i switch to xbox and ps3 i use the Astro mixamp which lets me use this headset for each system. Amazing! one of the best parts is the pull out mic works amazing for skype calls and ingame chat and then hides right back in ear cup. if you can drop $75 get the used one! (im selling the used one when i ordered this headset few weeks ago dell sent me two by mistake : ) )
