"Not Fully Functional on OS X with C4D" 2009-09-16
By CMOS (US)
Christoph is correct. Even though 3D Connexion claims that this device is supported under OS X and with Cinema 4D, it is basically a paperweight. Virtually none of the buttons work, and on their support forums the company refers complaints to a 2 year old thread where they claim they're "working on it". This company doesn't give a damn about Mac users but they want Mac users' money; that's the bottom line. Look to another company for your 3D devices on Mac.

"DO NOT BUY FOR MAC" 2009-09-07
By Christoph D. Coleman (Denver, CO USA)
While this device seems great, the company does not support this device for OS X AT ALL! They do have a driver, but it only runs as a Space Navigator (the really cheap 2 button device) so all the other buttons on this device will not be usable in any application but the finder. This is a waste of money, because I have had this exact device for over 2 years and although they constantly say they will release drivers that actually work, for 2 years they have failed to do so. I have a great glowing blue paperweight tho. Again, I am not opposed to the idea, but you only get the functionality of the much cheaper device (Space Navigator). As a side note, I have used it for Blender and Maya.

"Great 3-D Mouse. Not durable." 2009-04-17
By D. Berman (Washington, D.C.)
Functionally this 3-D mouse is great. The shortcut keys are assignable to useful functions (iso view, save, undo, etc). The problem I have now is that the mouse has a thin tactile rubber coating that is quickly falling off. Once there's a "hole in the armor" so to speak, the whole coating starts peeling away, so it looks like my mouse has eczema.

"This will NOT replace your mouse or trackball" 2009-04-11
By Mark Asch (South Orange, NJ USA)
It's a well-designed product, but its a terrible shame that it can't be used as a normal mouse. This is never explicitly stated in the description and really ought to be. Applications have to be specifically supported. You can not use this device to, for example, control your cursor and click on stuff and assign the buttons to open applications. At least, not unless you obtain the SDK (software developer kit) and have the skills to develop this functionality yourself. This is a major, and really kind of surprising, oversight. Yes, the SpaceExplorer is super-fab for Sketchup and other 3-D programs that are supported (although other reviews do point out some issues) and the product is intended to be used in conjunction with a normal mouse in such apps. But isn't it absolutely, screamingly obvious that people will want this device to replace their mouse altogether for navigating their operating system and pedestrian apps like email, iTunes, web browsers, etc? Come on, 3D Connexion, don't you want to sell a lot more of these things? I am very disappointed that the usability of this device is so limited.

"Nice, but too many buttons." 2009-01-08
By Jasper B. (Nome)
I tried this, & was initially a bit overwhelmed by all the buttons: there are so many, it's easy to trigger them accidentally when you're tiliting the device head. The '2D' function annoyed me at first, but it can prove useful. The best thing about this uinit is the "hand-rest"-shaped body, which keeps the unit in correct orientation, (a constant problem with the basic unit.) In the end, I decided the buttons were superfluous; I can just add some keyboard shortcuts in Solidworks instead. I returned it & went back to the more basic PE edition. (I also use double-sided tape to keep it in place on my desk.) It's simpler, & MUCH cheaper.

Well, I didn't want a Tv in my room because my new computer has the ability to play live Tv and It would take up too much space, so I ordered this item in hopes of playing my Wii, ps2, and nintendo 64 on my monitor. I have confidence it will work well because my computer is HD and Brand new

"Does what it advertises, no more, no less. . ." 2010-07-04
By Daniel Macarthur Kaufman (East Coast, USA)
This device does what it advertises - allows you to hook standard def AV equipment (e.g. DVD players, older game consoles) that only have S-Video or Composite video output to a computer monitor with VGA in. . .it does a very competent and non-exciting "upscaling" of the content, so don't expect hi-def like video. For that, you'd need a lot more expensive hardware, but this gets the job done and does it for a reasonable price. I used it to run the s-video out from an HVX-200 to a 26" Vizio monitor for focus and performance review.

I never received this item. Amazon shipped it on time as usual but it was mis-delivered from my post office, never to be seen again. I'm saving up money to order another one, and maybe pay extra to have UPS bring it. Super saver shipping was a little too much like a Secret Santa in this instance.

"Solid for Media PC use." 2010-08-25
By T. Ruppell (Bothell, WA, United States)
This wireless keyboard/mouse combo by Lenovo now serves as our Media PC's form of connection. The signal travels easily over 20 feet from the source if I try, a tiny USB dongle. I've never noticed missing keystrokes, jerky motion, or input lag. Touch and feel are above par, much better than the other offerings I tested out at this price.

I had tried a cheap setup from Fry's, thinking if it went wrong, oh well, I lost $12. I lost $12, I couldn't get the mouse to work consistently, nor could I really enjoy using them even if they did, as the formats were awkward. Lenovo's setup is not particularly fancy looking, but it DOES look and feel well built. The mouse in particular has a very nice feel from a somewhat soft touch layer of plastic along top, rather than a smudgy, untextured shiny surface on some alternatives.

All in all, worth every penny.

Exactly what I needed. I no longer have a Lenovo laptop but missed its awesome [and unmatched] keyboard. This product is a great supplement to the cheap, chiclet keyboard that is for some reason so popular in all laptops nowadays.

If you need to do real typing, get this.

The buttons for volume, etc. are nice as well since those are also less than stellar on my new laptop.

"Sound quality is very good comfort is not" 2010-09-22
By Scott Baxter (Pearland, TX, US)
Received the headphones in perfect condition, use them for a language learning program. the sound is pretty good , the base is a little thin but fully acceptable for my use. the mic boom is flexible along its full length which is convenient but makes consistent positioning, which affects the mic sound quality, a little more challenging. overall a very good product, though next time I will buy a USB headset.

"best headset I have had yet!" 2010-09-17
By Cathy A. Flaherty (Tacoma WA)
This head set has exceptional sound for the price, fits over your ears, not on them which adds to the comfort. I wear glassess and have not had any issues with rubbing or irritation from this headset. It does block out a good bit of background noise as well, so if you NEED to hear the phone ring in the next room, or your dog whine to go out side, DO NOT buy! Otherwise, you should be very happy!

"It's average and not as good as the good reviews claim." 2010-09-10
By ragnola
I have only had this product for about two days and it seems to be working just fine. My old headset did not have a microphone so I wanted to get one for gaming and I came upon this one which was the cheapest and best rated item among the cheap ones. The sound quality is pretty decent and only slightly better than my old headset. I just bought this for the microphone though so sound hardly matters to me. The microphone seems to work just fine too so here are the ratings I give it from a scale of one to ten:

Sound: 7 (pretty average, it's nothing to be WOW! about.)

Microphone: 7 (average? Not sure how to rate a mic)

Durability: 10(may change if i remember to come back and change the review after having this item for a longer period of time)

Comfort: 9.5 (Comfort is pretty good and it fits better into my ears than my old headset, but it is a little bit tight. So far no issues have come up from it being a little tight though)

Looks: 10 (Good rating only because it looks a lot fancier and better than my old headset or any that I've ever had)

Noise Cancelling: 9 (does better than my old headset at doing that. I live in a two story home so whenever someone yells for me from downstairs I usually could hear them through my old headset, but with the new one I can hardly hear their voices anymore.)

Well that's all for now. I hope this review helps a little for those who are considering this product. I'd say it's worth it.

 "Excellent for programmers" 2010-06-03
By C
I love this keyboard. I carry it around with my netbook because I simply can't stand the little chicklet keys on them. On this keyboard, the caps lock key is replaced by the function key (caps lock is a function key shortcut). In addition, the keys corresponding to the pointer, bird, and ring fingers of the right hand are function key shortcuts for the arrow keys, home, and end. Once you get used to this, you'll never want to go back to a standard keyboard.

Tactile feed back could be a little better: I'd give it a 3/5

For ease of use, strategically placed function key shortcuts, portability, and just how friggin' cool a folding keyboard is, this gets a 5/5 from me.

"Great to use until keys stopped working!!" 2010-02-20
By Stanford M. Adelstein (South Dakota)
I really liked this keyboard. Same size, folded, as my Acer. Liked the keys response to pressure, easy to get going. After about two weeks the "y" key stopped responding, a few more days it was the left "shift" key, then the "T" So I sent it back, disappointed and still looking for something that works.

"Pretty good for typists with long fingernails" 2010-02-13
By Rayne Bowe (Seattle, WA USA)
I bought this to go with my Samsung NC-10 netbook since I can't type on it at all with medium long fingernails. On a regular desktop keyboard with tall keys and lots of space, my fingernails hang over the edge of the keys. I'm a fast typist, too. So I held my breath with the Matias. While the keys were not as high as I'd hoped, I am able to type well on it and not make mistakes. This is an immense relief. As others have said, the keyboard does not lie flat but it helps to put some folded paper under it in the middle. Perhaps over time it will flatten out, but as is, it is not a major problem while using it on a desk.

3-9-10 Update. I took this keyboard on a trip for a week, and it was a godsend for a touch typist. I've upgraded my rating to 5 stars because the not lying flat part is not much of an issue at all.

 "Great little keyboard" 2009-12-12

This keyboard works really great and folds up small enough to put in my laptop case.

The only additions that would make it better would be a usb port to replace the one used up on my laptop

and it would be nice if the cable could be plugged in on either side.

"Unless they're not for long term use, look elsewhere" 2010-08-18
By M. Cota (Middle of Nowhere, USA)
My father purchased these for me upon my request as a gift. I had read all the recommendations, and now after trying them on for a good few weeks I've come to the conclusion that these must be one of the overrated items I've ever been suckered into buying. When i first got them, they pressed really hard against my ears, but they weren't tight against my head at all. I figured it was because they were new and that it would either ease with time, or I'd get used to it. Nope! Wearing these any longer than 5-10 minutes at a time is actually PHYSICALLY PAINFUL to my ears, they just start crushing my ears against my head after uses any longer than my previously mentioned time. Unless you're just buying them for the name, or you have a high tolerance for ear pain, look elsewhere!

 "Decent Headphones" 2010-02-11
By Joseph Hung M. Vu (Rancho Cucamonga, CA)

 "Fantastic but... !" 2009-12-13
By Raku
I bought the Razer Piranha headphones when they were first released and immediately I was impressed.

Since this seems to be the biggest issue with these... I would not suggest wearing this headset for more than 4+ hours. These do get heavy and start to feel irritable to the ears, but not without being on for several hours. Then again most headsets are going to get uncomfortable at that point. Everyone's comfort level is different when it comes to headphones, and these are by far some of the most comfortable I've worn.

These are very sturdy! The wires are actually a little long in my opinion, so I have them tied to keep them from falling onto the floor. The lighting needs to be plugged into a USB port, but in actuality it's not a big deal with some of the gaming cases out today that have plenty of ports. I carry these around quite a bit to LAN parties and the like, and I've never had any problems with them getting near breaking point, they can take a punch. Unless you're being overly rough with them you shouldn't have a problem.

Sound quality. I'm a bit of an audiophile, and I can safely say it's pretty good, though not excellent. As another reviewer stated, it's for gaming, not really intended for music listening however they don't sound bad for just music or videos either. When I have these on I can't hear much noise pollution except for the game or music I'm listening to. Unless I have one side off on purpose of course.

The microphone is pretty good as well; I find that I have to turn my outgoing up on occasion, but in all reasoning it could be because of several factors when it comes to program and computer settings. People can hear me clearly and rarely catch any noises going on in the background. It has an in-line remote control with volume and microphone muting adjustments; the muting button is not easy to move so no accidents!

I've owned a lot of headsets from Logitech to Plantronics, and I can say these are some of the nicest I've owned.

 "Good sound, bad comfort" 2009-06-08
By Brent Zeimen
Overview: the headset sounds nice, and is good for casual play, but not good at all for professional or avid gamers. I am buying a new set of headphones after a year because I'm tired of having to take a break every ten minutes because my ears hurt from the pressure. The sound will please most people, but not those used to higher-end headphones or in-ear 'phones for music. this headset, in my eyes, has a value of about $30 so if you find it for cheap you might like it but I don't think I would buy it even then, the thing is very uncomfortable and even painful after about twenty minutes.

Sound: the sound quality is good, but not fantastic, this is definitely not a headset for avid music listeners, as the sound isn't really true to what you'd want for music, this is a headset completely made with gaming in mind. explosions, gunfire, and steel on steel sounds way better than music does with this headset. The sound goes from a moderate, comfortable volume to a really loud volume, though not quite painfully loud. this headset does not need an amp to work fine. This headset also picks up very little noise compared to other headphones, the signal isn't impeded by any noise, even on most onboard sound cards.

Microphone: the mic is good, but not fantastic, again it's made with gaming in mind, the mic itself is very quiet even though the sound coming from the pads is quite loud, it's on an adjustable, semi-bendable boom coming from the left side, and has no filtering foam on it. if a software microphone amplifier is used on a recording of the mic it can and probably will sound sibilant (where everything with a "t" or "s" sound is prominent). The mic is not for the very quiet, several times I've had to raise my voice to a louder level just to be heard through the mic by other players. Having the USB cord plugged in at the same time as the mic cord seems to help a little, but not much.

Build Quality: the headset is sturdy and will last awhile (mine has lasted for over a year with no problems whatsoever, and I am not gentle with it) the ends of the cord are separated about four feet from the minijack and usb plugs, those cords are all sturdy and won't give out. I braided the separate cords except for the last five inches or so both to protect the cords and to keep the ends from tangling, it works very well. after the seperation the cord is covered by some form of nylon shoe-string-esque covering, it's tough and will not tear, this goes all the way up to the left ear-cup where it is attatched to the headset. about two feet from the headset there is a volume dial/mic switch. the low end of the volume dial is the on side for the mic switch. be careful when using the headset because both the volume dial and the mic switch like to flip easily.

Comfort: this headset is comfortable for about 15 minutes, then the pressure starts to hurt one's ears, the headset in a relaxed position has about two inches or so between ear pads (at the smallest size setting) the headset is made to pull apart, sure, but the pressure crushes the ear against one's head, meaning if you have glasses, like myself the back of your ears will hurt unless you adjust your glasses. after about thirty minutes of use, the headset's ear pads will have crushed your ears quite well, and any movement of the headset will be painful. when the headset is taken off I do not recommend putting in-ear headphones on, your outer and mid-ear will thank you for not.
