"Works good for a 10 year old wheel" 2010-09-15
By J. Roe (Greeley, Colorado USA)
I bought this wheel used, and so far have been pretty impressed with it. Sure it isn't perfect but for 35 bucks its one of the cheapest wheels you can still find on the market. It works with windows 7, although its mostly just the base features, which is alright to me.

The version I got is all black, which is just fine. The force feedback doesn't really work but that is because the software that was designed to control it was designed 10 years ago and may not work on newer OSs. However even with the lack of force feedback it still feels relatively sturdy. the clamp which is supposed to hold it to the desk is not horribly well designed but if you hold the wheel right it shouldn't pose to big of an issue.

The buttons are in good spots with 6 on the front allowing for multiple uses, in rFactor I use them for a myriad of things including the pit speed limiter. What the picture doesn't show, is that it has two buttons on the back of the wheel which allow you to use them as paddle shifters like in F1 and Inycar, so the lack of a shifter knob isn't always a bad thing.

It has somewhat of a deadzone that takes some time getting used to but it isn't hugely noticeable to me. Its powercord for the force feedback is short so you'll have to use an extension cord if you are not very close to an outlet. The nice thing is the cable that connects the peddals to the steering wheel looks like a phone cable so if it gets damaged you may be able to substitute a standard phone cable in its place.

The pedal stand is wide and is sturdy, although it may slip on anything but carpet. The pedals feel pretty sturdy but have a bit of a deadzone which can make it hard to have light acceleration/braking in the game you are playing.

Overall it is a pretty good wheel if your not looking for super advanced features and just want a simple wheel to play your favorite raving games. It doesn't seem to need drivers as Windows 7 simply downloaded them from the internet for me and it worked immediately. It is one of the better cheap wheels out there considering on how expensive many of the good wheels are today.

I'd recommend it to simracers who are on a tight budget, or just casual racers who want a steering wheel they don't want to spend a fortune on.

"Good for Entry Level Sim Racers" 2004-02-02
By Michael E Bjorkley (EGLIN, AFB FL)
This wheel is ok if you have never raced a driving sim before. BUT, and a BIG BUT, if you are in it for precision driving, as required in titles such as Nascar Racing 2003 or F1, you better be prepared to pay a little more. I have found that with endless calibrations of the wheel, it still jumps side to side when near center. (ex: Straightaways, it will not hold straight)

INSTALLATION CAN BE A NIGHTMARE FOR XP.....THE PROMPTS ARE AMBIGOUS AND CONFUSING TO ME......IF YOU HAVE XP YOU NEED TO STOP SHORT AT A CERTAIN POINT OF INSTALLATION OR ELSE OU WON'T BE ABLE TO UNINSTALL......NOT PURE PLUG AND PLAY

"Steer your way to better game play" 2002-08-29
By R. Geissman (Lodi, OH United States)
I have installed this wheel on both a HP PIII laptop and Emachine Celeron desktop both running Win XP Home. The included installation CD warned me that the programs were not approved for this operating system but allow you to install them anyway. Both systems installed correctly and operate without any problems. The wheel has an adjustable clamp and you will need about 8 inches from the edge of a desk to the back of the unit on the surface and about 5 inches on the bottom of your desktop to clamp correctly and securely. The foot pedals attach to the wheel unit via a RJ11 patch cord that is provided. My unit came with a huge transformer power supply that will hog a power strip as it is 2.5" x 3" in size. The USB cable is hard wired into the back of the wheel unit and is 6' long. Would have been nice to have a regular USB connection so a 10' cable could be used. You could always buy an extension cable if needed. The wheel works well and includes 8 programmable buttons. Buttons 1-6 are on the wheel face and are located so they can be activated via your thumbs. Buttons 7-8 are really little paddle buttons that are on the back of the wheel and are activated by your forefingers. They can be used for shifting. Microsoft has also included a button in the middle of the wheel that turns the force feedback option on/off. The pedals are nice and big with good feel. The platform they are on is solid and doesn't move around on my basement floor. They will move around a bit on carpet though. In my opinion the force feedback is pretty unrealistic, but it still is fun. Have used the wheel with Midtown Madness 2, NASCAR 2002, and the included Monster Truck Madness 2 without any problems. I purchased mine with a Microsoft rebate while Amazon was having Microsoft promotional rebates as well. I'm happy with the performance of the wheel for the amount I paid.
